  2. Alzheimer's is a progressive, degenerative disease and another form of dementia which affects the memory, thinking and behavior and eventually loses control in reasoning, planning, language and perception. Dementia is serious disorder that affects a person's ability to carry out daily activities. Alzheimer's disease is a neurogenerative disease.

  3. The policy statement that was released by the VA in October 2009 includes diabetes and coronary heart disease, both very common conditions. Vietnam veterans are now in the age range where type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease develops in many people. Although there appears to be an increased risk of these problems in Vietnam veterans exposed during their tours of duty, there is really no way to determine what role the exposure had in an individual veteran's diabetes or coronary disease.
