A new mystery illnes has hit Vietnam causing concern from government officials. At least 19 people have died and 171 are sickened. Patients first experience a fever with rashes on their hands and feet. Organ failure can result leading to death.

ReplyDeleteThe policy statement that was released by the VA in October 2009 includes diabetes and coronary heart disease, both very common conditions. Vietnam veterans are now in the age range where type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease develops in many people. Although there appears to be an increased risk of these problems in Vietnam veterans exposed during their tours of duty, there is really no way to determine what role the exposure had in an individual veteran's diabetes or coronary disease.
